What is the Caregiver Pilot Program?

Canada currently runs two pilot programs under the Caregiver stream:

• Home Child Care Provider Pilot
• Home Support Worker Pilot

These programs allow qualified foreign caregivers to work in Canada with an occupation-specific open work permit and apply for permanent residency after gaining 24 months of eligible work experience.

The pilots replace older programs like the Live-in Caregiver Program, with better flexibility and more security for workers and their families.

Who Can Apply?

You may be eligible if you:

• Have a valid job offer in Canada for a caregiver role (from an eligible employer)
• Demonstrate at least 1 year of post-secondary education
• Meet minimum language requirements (CLB 5 in English or French)
• Have relevant work experience in caregiving (home child care or home support)
• Are admissible to Canada and intend to live outside Quebec

You can also include your spouse and dependent children in your application for both a work permit and PR.
