What is the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)?

The FSTP is one of the three main immigration programs managed through Canada’s Express Entry system. It’s designed for foreign nationals who:

• Have training and experience in a skilled trade
• Meet the language and licensing requirements
• Intend to live outside the province of Quebec

This stream helps fill Canada’s labor gaps in construction, manufacturing, maintenance, and technical trades.

Eligible Skilled Trades

To qualify for FSTP, your trade must fall under NOC TEER 2 or 3 in one of the following groups:

• Industrial, electrical, and construction trades
• Maintenance and equipment operation trades
• Supervisors and technical jobs in natural resources or agriculture
• Chefs, butchers, and bakers
• Plumbers, welders, mechanics, HVAC techs, etc.

Who Can Apply for FSTP?

You may be eligible if you:

• Have at least 2 years of full-time work experience in a skilled trade (within the last 5 years)
• Meet language requirements: CLB 5 for speaking/listening and CLB 4 for reading/writing
• Have a valid job offer in Canada OR a Certificate of Qualification from a Canadian authority
• Plan to live outside Quebec
• Are admissible to Canada
