What is the Parents & Grandparents Sponsorship Program?

The PGP is a family reunification program by IRCC that allows eligible Canadians to sponsor their:

• Biological or adoptive parents
• Grandparents
• In some cases, step-parents (if legally married to the biological parent)

Once approved, your parents or grandparents become permanent residents of Canada, with access to healthcare, social benefits, and eventually the option to apply for citizenship.

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible to sponsor under the PGP, you must:

• Be 18 years or older
• Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
• Reside in Canada at the time of application
• Meet the Minimum Necessary Income (MNI) for 3 consecutive years prior to applying
• Sign a 20-year sponsorship undertaking (10 years for Quebec residents)
• Be selected in IRCC’s Interest to Sponsor lottery system (when open)
