Public support for immigration in Canada has dropped significantly in the past year due to affordability and housing concerns linked to a surge in newcomers, reveals a survey by the Environics Institute for Survey Research and Century Initiative. The poll shows a rise from 27% to 44% of Canadians thinking immigration levels are too high. This is the most enormous opinion shift Environics saw in over four decades of polling. A year ago, immigration support was at its peak. However, economic worries such as high inflation, increasing interest payments, and a severe housing crisis have since prevailed.
