A PSAC strike would likely result in further processing delays

On April 17, 2023, The Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC), the largest union in the Canadian federal public sector, announced that they would go on strike if an agreement could not be reached with the Government of Canada. If this happens, public employees may begin a strike on April 19, 2023. This would be the largest strike against a single employer in Canadian history. PSAC is in a legal strike position, meaning they have 60 days to strike. The union estimated approximately 155,000 public servants, including those working at Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Last week, PSAC members overwhelmingly voted to take strike action after being without a contract with the Federal Government since June 2021.
