Montreal’s Haitians request special immigration program

Haitian Montrealers wrote an open letter to the Quebec and Canadian Governments, seeking a special program for immigrants fleeing violence in Haiti. There are thousands of Haitian refugees in Quebec, many awaiting refugee status. Frantz Andre of the Comite d’Actions des Personnes Sans Statut calls for Ottawa to grant PR for humanitarian reasons and expedite family reunification. The situation has spurred advocates to draw attention to the issue’s urgency, emphasizing the precarious conditions these refugees face.
