The millennial population in Canada has now surpassed the number of baby boomers

A Statistics Canada report reveals that millennials exceed baby boomers in Canada, reaching a demographic peak of 23%. The millennial population rose by 457,354 between July 2022 and 2023, predominantly due to incoming immigrants. The average age in Canada decreased from 41.7 to 41.6, the first drop since 1958. Immigration was a significant factor, contributing to 96% of the population growth of 430,635 between July and December 2023. Immigrants comprised 23% of Canada’s total population in 2022, with most being under 65 and in their prime working years. Canada welcomed a record 471,550 new permanent residents in 2023, with most non-permanent residents being aged 20-24. The Atlantic provinces have Canada’s oldest population, while Alberta has the youngest average age.
