According to the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), most individuals who received deportation notices in Canada from 2016 to May last year are still in the country. Of 14,609 people issued with these notices, 9,317 remained in the country, raising concerns about enforcement. Fewer than a quarter of those issued notices have been deported. The figures also revealed that 771 individuals have voluntarily left the country since 2021. The CBSA asserts that all those ordered to leave are entitled to due process and that removal orders can be appealed. Some individuals had their removal orders voided or gained permanent resident status. The CBSA is committed to removing individuals who pose a threat to national security, organized crime, and crimes against humanity. However, the process can be complex and lengthy due to legal and administrative procedures. Meanwhile, Immigration Minister Marc Miller is developing a program to allow individuals who have lived and worked in Canada illegally for years to remain in the country legally.
