Quebec announced a language proficiency update for the Regular Skilled Worker Program candidates

On January 3, 2024, the Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Intégration (MIFI) implemented several measures to bolster French-speaking immigration. As of June 2023, all applicants under the Regular Skilled Worker Program (RSWP) must declare a spoken French proficiency of level 7 or higher according to the Québec scale. However, persons with a job offer outside the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal (CMM) could temporarily apply without declaring French level. As of 2024, all individuals with an outside-CMM job offer must declare a level 7 or higher French proficiency. Employers are encouraged to verify candidates’ French levels before initiating a job offer process.
