September marked the fourth consecutive monthly drop in immigration to Canada

According to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) data, Canada’s immigration fell for the fourth month in a row in September, reaching the lowest level since April. The country accepted 32,065 new permanent residents in September, an 8.5% decrease from August’s 35,055. Despite a rebound in May with 46,000 new residents, the monthly rate has dropped 30.3% in five months. September’s figure was 37% lower than 2021’s peak in January, which saw 50,930 new residents. From January to September 2023, 371,140 new permanent residents arrived in Canada, putting the country on track to welcome 494,853 by the end of 2023.
