Operations are on hold due to a fire at the Canadian Embassy in Abuja, Nigeria

The Canadian Embassy in Abuja, Nigeria, has temporarily halted operations due to a fatal fire caused by a tanker explosion inside the generator building. The incident resulted in two deaths and two injuries, with the injured currently hospitalized. Minister of Foreign Affairs Melanie Joly confirmed the fire is under control, and investigations into the cause are underway. Following this, Canada issued an updated travel advisory for Abuja on November 6, 2023, advising against non-essential travel due to unpredictable security and significant risk of terrorism, crime, and other threats. The embassy’s operations remain suspended.
