Canada job vacancies dropped in the first quarter of 2023

In the first quarter of this year, job prospects for the least-educated workers in Canada were hit hard as job vacancies for their positions dropped significantly. According to Statistics Canada, the largest proportional decline was seen in jobs requiring a high school diploma or less, where job vacancies fell by 16% or 82,900 positions. The tightest labour market was for tradespeople, which saw an increase in employment of 100,600 or 3.4% in Q1. According to the latest job vacancies report, there were 843,200 job vacancies in Q1, a decrease of 3.8% from the previous quarter and the third consecutive quarterly decline.
