Manitoba has now issued 6,731 invitations to skilled worker candidates in 2019

New Manitoba draw invites 157 skilled workers and international students

Manitoba invited 157 skilled foreign workers to apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residence in a new draw held October 24.

The invitations went to candidates in the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program(MPNP)’s Skilled Worker in Manitoba, Skilled Worker Overseas and International Education immigration pathways.

The MPNP is part of Canada’s Provincial Nominee Program, which allows participating Canadian provinces and territories to nominate a set number of skilled workers and other Economic Class immigration candidates for Canadian permanent residence each year.

Manitoba has issued 6,731 invitations to apply for a provincial nomination to skilled worker candidates so far this year.

The invitations, known as Letters of Advice to Apply (LAAs), were divided as follows:

  • Skilled Worker in Manitoba: 117
  • Skilled Worker Overseas: 24
  • International Education Stream: 16

The MPNP said that 12 of the invitations issued went to candidates with a profile in the federal Express Entry system.

To be considered for a provincial nomination from Manitoba, Express Entry candidates must have eligible work experience in one of Manitoba’s in-demand occupations, among other requirements, and submit a separate Expression of Interest to the MPNP.

Skilled Worker Overseas

The MPNP’s Skilled Worker Overseas Category allows the MPNP to select and nominate approved foreign workers with skills required in Manitoba’s labour market.

Among other criteria, candidates must have an established connection to Manitoba such as close family or friends, previous education or work experience in the province or an invitation through one of the MPNP’s Strategic Recruitment Initiatives.

All 24 Skilled Worker Overseas candidates invited in the October 24 draw were invited directly through a Strategic Recruitment Initiative, which include overseas recruitment missions led by the MPNP.

In order to be considered for a nomination, all candidates must first register an Expression of Interest (EOI).

All EOIs are issued a score out of 1,000 based on the MPNP’s skilled worker points grid, which considers a candidate’s age, skilled work experience, education level and proficiency in English or French, among other factors.

The highest-scoring candidates are issued a Letter of Advice to Apply through regular draws from the province’s EOI pool.

The 24 Skilled Worker Overseas candidates invited October 24 had a minimum score of 685.

Skilled Worker in Manitoba

The Skilled Worker in Manitoba Category also operates on an EOI basis.

Candidates in this category must be working in Manitoba and have a full-time, permanent job offer from their employer, among other criteria.

The lowest-ranked candidate invited through the Skilled Worker in Manitoba Category on October 24 had an EOI score of 567.

International Education Stream

Manitoba graduates with certain in-demand skills may be invited under the International Education Stream.

This stream includes three sub-categories: Career Employment Pathway, Graduate Internship Pathway, and the Student Entrepreneur Pathway.
