On April 3, 2023, Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), announced that Budget 2023 included a new Grocery Rebate to provide targeted inflation relief for 11 million low- and modest-income Canadians and families. Eligible couples with children may receive up to an additional $467, single Canadians without children may receive an additional $234, and seniors may receive an additional average of $225 to help make life more affordable. Budget 2023 aims to create a more secure, sustainable, and affordable Canada while maintaining the lowest deficit and net debt-to-GDP ratio among G7 countries.
