Canada and the US started immigration data sharing

Recent regulatory changes to the Canada – US visa and immigration information sharing agreement, effective January 17, 2025, now enable the automated exchange of biographical and biometric data for permanent residents of both nations. This expansion of the 2012 agreement will facilitate improved security screening and immigration decisions through systematic information sharing between the two countries. The enhanced system, which only exchanges information upon request during immigration screening processes, maintains strict privacy protections while strengthening border security and visa issuance procedures.
