Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced they will implement a cap of 505,162 study permit applications for the 2025 calendar year. This strategic adjustment, which takes effect from January 22 to December 31, 2025, reflects a reduction from the previous year’s processing target of 606,250 applications. Applications received after reaching this threshold will be returned with a full-fee refund. The measure provides exceptions for select student categories, specifically those extending permits within the same institution and academic level, participants in exchange programs, and Global Affairs Canada scholarship recipients.
