Recent data from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada reveals that approximately 50,000 international students with valid study permits were reported as “no-shows” at their designated educational institutions during spring 2024, representing 6.9% of total international students. The highest non-compliance rates were observed from several African and Middle Eastern countries, with Rwanda leading at 48.1%. In comparison, countries like the Philippines and China showed lower rates at 2.2% and 6.4%, respectively. These findings emerge from the International Student Compliance Regime, implemented in 2014 to monitor student attendance and identify potential misuse of study permits.
