OINP strengthens immigration representative oversight with immediate ban powers

On January 2, 2025, the Provincial Government of Ontario announced that the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) enhanced its enforcement capabilities by implementing immediate ban procedures for immigration representatives who violate regulations. The director can now impose instant bans on representatives who contravene the Ontario Immigration Act, 2015, bypassing the previous requirement of first issuing an administrative monetary penalty. This streamlined approach aims to provide stronger protection against immigration fraud and reflects the program’s commitment to safeguarding newcomers from misrepresentation and fraudulent activities.
