Canada expands work opportunities for Start-Up Visa candidates

The Government of Canada has announced that Start-Up Visa candidates can now apply for open work permits, effective October 3, 2024. This change allows applicants to supplement their income through various employment opportunities while establishing businesses. The new three-year open work permit replaces the previously closed permit system, granting candidates the flexibility to work for almost any employer in Canada alongside developing their start-up ventures. This move aims to enhance the program’s appeal and support entrepreneurs transitioning to the Canadian market. Additionally, the policy extends to immediate family members, with spouses eligible for open work permits and children qualifying for study permits.
