A recent study in the Journal of International Migration and Integration shows that temporary foreign workers who secure high-paying jobs before immigrating to Canada tend to have higher incomes once they obtain permanent residency. The study, “The Effect of Pre immigration Canadian Work Experience on the Returns to Human Capital Among Immigrants,” analyzed data from principal economic applicants admitted to Canada between 2000 and 2015. The results indicate that economic immigrants with high pre-immigration Canadian earnings had significantly higher economic returns to education and foreign work experience than those with low pre-immigration Canadian earnings or no pre-immigration Canadian work experience.
