Canadian immigration officials allowed into the country almost 57% of foreign nationals red-flagged as security risks by CBSA

Immigration officials in Canada have let in almost half of the foreign nationals flagged as security risks by CBSA. Between 2014 and 2019, out of 7,141 cases given a “non-favourable” recommendation for ties to serious offences, including war crimes, espionage, and terrorism, 3,314 people were allowed into Canada. The audit reveals that despite security concerns, 56.9% of the foreign nationals were allowed in because another government department pushed their applications through with public policy exemptions. In only 177 cases, IRCC officials disagreed with CBSA’s assessment of security risks.
