On March 2, 2023, the Government of Canada announced that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) reached the intake cap for private sponsorship applications through the Private Sponsorship of Refugees Program (PSRP). On October 17, 2022, IRCC introduced a temporary public policy to facilitate the sponsorship of Afghan refugees by groups of five and community sponsors to accept 3,000 Afghan refugees under the PSRP. The public policy expires on October 17, 2023, but no new applications will be accepted as the program has reached the cap.
