Today marks one year of the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine

February 24, 2023, marks one year after Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The unfortunate event led to the displacement of millions of Ukrainians, and around 100,000 Ukrainian nationals lost their lives. In the last twelve months, Russian forces have been responsible for gross violations of international humanitarian law, including extrajudicial killings, torture, arbitrary detentions, and pillaging of civilian property. Since February 2022, the Government of Canada has donated over $1 billion in military aid to Ukraine. The Canadian Government also launched the Canada-Ukraine authorization for emergency travel (CUAET), allowing Ukrainian nationals to find safety in Canada. According to the latest update, IRCC has approved 559,868 applications from Ukrainian nationals, and 168,585 Ukrainians have arrived in Canada under the CUAET since the beginning of the war.
