International Experience Canada (IEC) program allows foreign youth from 35 countries to work and live in Canada. According to an IRCC memo, despite the majority of IEC applicants (85%) obtaining an open work permit upon entry, which allows them to work in all Canadian provinces, approximately 45 percent of them choose to work in British Columbia. Alberta, Ontario, and Quebec are the next most IEC applicants-accepting provinces. Especially British Columbia and Alberta rely on IEC applicants to tackle the labour shortages in the hospitality sector.
