Canada announced changes to the medical inadmissibility policy

On March 16, 2022, the Government of Canada announced changes to the medical inadmissibility policy of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA). The new amendments will allow the Government to better align the medical inadmissibility policy with Canadian values on diversity and the inclusion of people with disabilities. According to the new guidelines, Canada has tripled the cost threshold for determining medical inadmissibility for PR applicants and removed special education, social and vocational rehabilitation and personal support services from the social services list that includes costs of treatments of some medical conditions.
