Special processing measures for 2024 Canadian wildfire victims expire

On January 3, 2025, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced that special processing measures for individuals affected by the 2024 Canadian wildfires have officially ended as of November 30, 2024. The measures provided specific accommodations for applications from wildfire-impacted individuals and will no longer accept new cases. However, IRCC officers will continue processing applications received before the deadline using these special provisions. From July 19 to November 30, 2024, the measures allowed Canadian citizens, permanent and temporary residents, to replace documents, extend their status, and obtain open work permits.
