Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has unveiled new draft regulations to establish a compensation fund for victims of dishonest immigration consultants. The proposed changes, set to take effect in 2025, could provide millions in restitution through the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants. IRCC projects 146 payments averaging $4,652 in the first period, with total compensation reaching over $5.7 million within ten periods. The regulations aim to combat fraud and promote ethical practices among immigration consultants while strengthening the College’s investigative and disciplinary powers.
