CBSA and RCMP thwart human smuggling attempt at Niagara border

In a joint operation under Project Disrupt and Deter, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) successfully intercepted a human smuggling attempt along the Niagara River in December 2024. The incident involved an individual who jumped from a moving freight train entering Canada in Fort Erie, Ontario. Two additional suspects were apprehended nearby. The main suspect was found inadmissible under the Canada-US Safe Third Country Agreement and was returned to the United States. This operation is part of the broader Project Northstar initiative, aimed at strengthening border security and combating organized crime groups involved in illegal border crossings.
