On December 3, 2024, Premier Wab Kinew announced that Manitoba will establish a trade office in Washington, D.C., in early 2025. Kinew emphasized that this office aims to strengthen trade ties with the United States and protect local jobs as they engage with the incoming Trump administration. He stated that it is a key component of their economic development strategy, focusing on boosting productivity, attracting investment, and creating jobs. The office will foster connections with U.S. decision-makers and industries, particularly in states like Illinois, Minnesota, Georgia, Tennessee, and Texas, where Manitoba has solid trade relationships. Recommended by the Premier’s Business and Jobs Council, which consists of business and labour leaders, the trade office will ensure a permanent presence in Washington and provide direct communication with the government.
