Canada’s job market shows shifts: Food service and healthcare lead vacancies

According to recent Statistics Canada data from Q3 2024, despite an overall decline in job vacancies nationwide, certain sectors continue showing significant worker demand. The latest figures reveal that food counter attendants and kitchen helpers top the list with 30,130 vacancies, followed closely by registered nurses with 23,905 openings. While total job vacancies have dropped to 546,100 from the 2022 peak of 983,600, these persistent openings in the food service and healthcare sectors highlight critical areas of ongoing labour demand in the Canadian economy.
