Alberta’s publicly funded post-secondary education system is essential for the province’s prosperity, preparing a skilled workforce and promoting innovative research. To ensure adequate funding and maintain the quality of education, the Alberta government is establishing an expert panel to assess current funding efficiencies and review models worldwide. This panel will consist of individuals with expertise in the province’s education sector and is expected to begin its work in early 2025. Their comprehensive report, due later that year, will evaluate aspects like funding mechanisms, the impact of federal immigration policies, administrative burdens on institutions, and the overall competitiveness of Alberta’s higher education system.
