IRCC introduced open work permits for skilled foreign nationals in PNP pools

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced a temporary public policy to issue open work permits to foreign nationals in Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) pools. Effective November 12, 2024, eligible workers currently employed in a Canadian province or territory can apply for an open work permit valid for up to two years. Applicants must have a signed letter of intent with IRCC and a support letter from a participating province or territory to qualify. This initiative aims to streamline the immigration process for skilled workers and address labour shortages. The policy is set to expire on December 31, 2024.
