A new global survey conducted by NAFSA, Oxford Test of English, and Studyportals has unveiled significant challenges post-secondary institutions face in maintaining international enrolments. The study, which gathered data from 365 institutions across 66 countries, highlights the substantial impact of government policies on student recruitment and enrollment trends. Notably, Canadian institutions reported more severe declines in undergraduate and postgraduate enrolments compared to other regions, with 93% citing visa-related and government policy issues as a major concern. The survey also revealed that many institutions anticipate budget cuts and program changes in the coming year, emphasizing the far-reaching consequences of global policy restrictions on higher education.
