Canada detected fraud in international student applications

Canadian immigration officials have flagged over 10,000 foreign student acceptance letters as potentially fraudulent in 2024. Bronwyn May, director-general of the International Students Branch at Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada revealed that enhanced verification processes implemented this year had intercepted these suspicious documents. The scrutiny comes after a scandal involving fake acceptance letters submitted by an unlicensed consultant in India. Despite the concerning findings, May assured that 93% of the 500,000 acceptance letters checked were confirmed genuine, highlighting the effectiveness of the new verification measures in maintaining the integrity of Canada’s international student program.
