Alberta is experiencing record population growth, with recent data from the government’s Office of Statistics and Information revealing a 204,677 increase (4.41%) from April 2023 to April 2024—the highest growth rate in Canada. This surpasses the national average of 3.20% and marks a jump from last year’s 3.67% growth, the fastest since 1981. Much of this growth stems from international immigration, which added 32,893 net new residents in early 2024, including various permit holders and asylum claimants. Alberta also sees strong gains from interprovincial migration, with people relocating from provinces like Ontario, BC, and Manitoba.
