Canada is on track to welcome over 500,000 new permanent residents in 2024, according to data from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). After notable growth in the early months, immigration numbers dipped by 4.9% in June, with 44,540 new arrivals. Despite this, the cumulative total for the year’s first half reached 255,700, slightly lower than the same period last year. Ontario remains the top destination, attracting over 41.6% of new immigrants. If the current trend continues, Canada could see an 8.4% increase in new permanent residents compared to 2023.
