A recent Statistics Canada report reveals a dramatic increase in the number of same-sex immigrant couples in Canada, rising from 900 in 2000 to 20,470 in 2020. These couples increasingly opt to live outside major cities, with the proportion residing in smaller urban centers and rural areas doubling from 10.7% to 21.4%. Once predominantly settled in Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver, only 61% of these couples live in these major cities. The study also highlights that same-sex immigrant couples tend to be younger, better educated, and enjoy higher employment rates and median incomes compared to opposite-sex couples.
