Ottawa implemented special measures for wildfire-affected residents

The Government of Canada has introduced special measures for those impacted by wildfires, allowing Canadian citizens and permanent residents to obtain free replacement documents such as permanent resident cards, citizenship certificates, passports, and other essential travel documents. These measures are available until November 30, 2024. Furthermore, employer-specific work permit holders affected by the wildfires can switch to open work permits, and international students and temporary foreign workers can extend or restore their status at no cost. Additionally, provisions exempt foreign emergency personnel from application and biometrics fees, aiding their wildfire response efforts.
