A new report from the National Foundation for American Policy reveals a significant rise in Indians immigrating to Canada, increasing four-fold from 32,828 in 2013 to 139,715 in 2023. This trend is driven by the ease of obtaining temporary status and permanent residence in Canada compared to the US, where restrictive H-1B visa policies and long waits for green cards discourage skilled immigrants. Concurrently, international student enrollment in US universities dropped by 5.6%, whereas Canadian universities saw a 51.6% increase. Despite recent diplomatic tensions, the long-term preference for Canada among Indian students and professionals is expected to continue.
