Canada’s Federal Government has intensified its efforts to penalize employers violating the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) rules, issuing $2.1 million in Administrative Monetary Penalties (AMP) in 2023. This represents a 36% increase from the previous year’s $1.54 million. The TFWP is crucial for employers to fill labour shortages with foreign workers. Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) conducted 2,122 inspections last year, finding most employers compliant. However, 12 employers were banned, up from seven in 2022. The crackdown is part of a $48 million investment to enhance the Employer Compliance Regime, ensuring worker protection and safety.
