Alberta introduced temporary support measures for wildfire-affected applicants

On July 26, 2024, Alberta announced temporary measures to support applicants impacted by the province’s wildfires. The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) will assist those whose employment is affected by wildfire evacuations. Applications tied to job offers or residences in evacuated communities will be held for up to one year from the evacuation date. Affected applicants have one year to meet AAIP criteria, including finding new employment if necessary. Additionally, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has introduced special measures, effective July 19 to November 30, 2024, allowing for free replacement of lost documents and transitions to open work permits.
