Immigrants work for longer periods than their Canadian-born peers

Recent data from Statistics Canada and the Royal Bank of Canada reveal that immigrant seniors work longer than their peers due to financial needs, retiring two years later. According to the report, more immigrants over 55 are employed than Canadian-born workers. The average retirement age for immigrants in Canada is 66, and they often work beyond 55, while their Canadian counterparts retire earlier. Immigrants working past 65 are usually employed by choice, but a higher percentage work out of necessity, indicating they may not be as financially prepared for retirement. The reasons for extended work periods among immigrants are varied and complex.
