In 2024, Nova Scotia received 12,900 study permits, a reduction of 7,000 from the previous year. As of 2023, the province was home to 16,000 international students. These permits are distributed among 32 designated learning institutions (DLIs), with 11,565 earmarked for universities and the Nova Scotia Community College. The remainder is allocated to private career colleges (710) and language schools (526), with 99 set aside for unexpected requirements. Brian Wong, the Minister of Advanced Education, is committed to securing a larger allocation. For 2024, Canada plans to issue 360,000 study permits, a drop of 35% from 2023.
