According to the latest data from Statistics Canada, Canada’s employment rate in February dipped by 0.1 percentage points to 61.5%, marking the fifth consecutive monthly decline due to rapid population growth outpacing employment growth. The past year saw a 0.9 percentage point decrease from the peak of 62.4% in February last year. Employment rose by 41,000, with growth in Alberta and Nova Scotia but declining in Manitoba. The increase was driven by a boost of 71,000 in full-time jobs. Core-aged women outperformed men in landing jobs, contributing to an employment rate of 81.4%. Industry-wise, accommodation and food services grew, while educational services and manufacturing saw declines. Employers seeking workers through economic immigration can utilize programs like the Temporary Foreign Worker Program, International Mobility Program, and Global Talent Stream. The Express Entry system remains a pathway for skilled workers through programs such as Federal Skilled Worker, Federal Skilled Trades, and Canada Experience Class.
