Many Canadians back employers hiring temporary foreign workers for unfilled positions despite rising opposition to increased immigration. Over 80% of Canadians believe these workers are crucial for the economy, and two-thirds support their citizenship application. The data comes amidst a rising preference for fewer immigrants in 2024 compared to 2023. Nik Nanos of Nanos Research suggests Canadians favour immigrants with specific job purposes, valuing an orderly system. The poll indicates 79% favour hiring temporary foreign workers, with the Atlantic region and Quebec most supportive and the Prairies and Ontario most resistant. 57% support boosting their numbers, with the highest support in the Atlantic Provinces and among those over 55. Meanwhile, 35% oppose more foreign workers, with the highest opposition in Ontario, the Prairies, and British Columbia.
