IRCC will replace documents of temporary and permanent residents affected by severe wildfires

The Canadian Government is taking steps to support communities affected by the current wildfire season, which has been unprecedented. On June 12, 2023, Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, announced special measures for individuals impacted by the fires. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will provide free replacement documents to Canadian citizens, permanent and temporary residents who have lost or damaged their documents. In addition, temporary residents directly affected by the wildfires and whose status is set to expire by September 30, 2023, will be eligible to extend or restore their status in Canada at no cost. These special measures will remain in effect until September 30, 2023.
