Canadian Afghans sued the Federal Government of Canada for discrimination

Two Afghan Canadians who served in the Canadian military in Afghanistan are taking legal action against the Federal Government due to alleged discrimination in immigration policies. The plaintiffs assert that the government affords superior immigration benefits to Ukrainians than to Afghans. Expressly, the policy for Afghan language and culture advisers permits their immediate family members, such as sisters, to immigrate to Canada, but not their adult children. The legal team representing the advisers has indicated that they seek to expand the Ukrainian policy to include anyone facing similar circumstances of wartime persecution or gross human rights violations, not just Ukrainians.
