On May 26, 2023, Canada announced a new partnership with the UAE to increase safe passage options for Afghans migrating to Canada. The partnership allows for the resettlement of up to 1,000 Afghan nationals currently in the UAE. On May 26, over 650 Afghan nationals arrived in Canada under this cooperation, destined for over 15 communities nationwide. In 2022, Canada welcomed three flights of Afghan citizens, bringing the total number of arrivals from the UAE to over 1,500 to date. As a result, Canada remains on track to resettle at least 40,000 vulnerable Afghans by the end of 2023, with nearly 32,000 individuals already welcomed to Canada.
