Canada needs to take full advantage of the talents and skillsets of immigrants, especially in healthcare. According to Statistics Canada, only 36.5% of new immigrants holding a foreign nursing degree work as registered nurses, while only 41.1% with medical degrees from abroad have found employment as doctors. Even though Canada currently faces a shortage of healthcare professionals on the frontline, bureaucratic and professional barriers prevent too many from entering relevant medical fields. As a result, many new immigrants are stuck in lower-paying jobs that need to recognize their skills.
