This year, Canada’s rate of immigration is growing at an unprecedented rate, far exceeding expectations. The data from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) shows that the country has welcomed 274,980 new permanent residents in just seven months of 2022. And if immigration continues at this rate, 471,394 by 2022 – which would be a 16.1 percent increase from last year’s record number of 406,025 new permanent residents. Ottawa’s Immigration Levels Plan for 2022-2024 had anticipated 431,645 permanent residents would arrive this year, with the numbers increasing to 447,055 next year and 451,000 in 2024.
